In my sleepy mountain community, with the silence of a mountain lion, the Leo New Moon climbs up into our sky in the wee hours of Sunday, July 23, 2017. At 2:45 a.m. PDT to be exact. In her darkest form, the new moon is like the seed planted deeply underground in its birthing stage coming to fruition a couple weeks later at the Full Moon. At Zero degrees and 44 minutes she is emerged in the infant stages of Leo.
The Sign Leo is ruled by the Sun, which among others things rules our lifeforce, our inner child, what we inspire to be, that radiant core of our essence. As a fixed, fire sign, I always envision Leo as the eternal flame of the child within. Leo rules the Heart, and in its highest expression, to shine from the heart of Leo is reflective of that brillant inner light.
Has the Lion in you been sleeping? How do you feed your inner child? Where do you shine, or want to be the center of attention? Are you honoring your creativity? Are you using the gifts and talents you were born with in a way that makes you feel good? New Moons are new beginnings. A time to step forward and create or launch whatever project, goals, or idea you’ve been holding onto or thinking about.
The planet Mars is conjunct this New Moon adding an extra layer of energy, passion, drive and ambitition. Don’t let the negative side of Mars, anger, frustration, keep you from stalking your prey. Use the power of Mars to initiate and move forward. Now is the time. Mars energy is aggressive, self-centered, fiery, and desire based. It is how we assert ourselves.
